NPA Managing Director Urges Students to Embrace Gratitude, Service, Patriotism

By: Peter Darblo

MONTERRADO COUNTY – The Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Sekou Hussein Dukuly, has urged students of Alieu Swaray Public Islamic and English High School to adopt values of self-gratitude, service to others, and patriotism as guiding principles for personal growth and national development.

Speaking at the school’s 5th Closing and Graduation Ceremony in Pengies Town, Montserrado County, Hon. Dukuly emphasized that cultivating a mindset rooted in thankfulness, volunteerism, and national pride is not only morally enriching but essential to creating lasting change in society.

“When young people learn to appreciate their journey, contribute to their communities, and put their country above personal gain, they become true agents of change,” Dukuly stated. “No nation can progress without citizens who are grateful, selfless, and patriotic.”

He noted that these values are the foundation of responsible leadership—leaders who prioritize collective well-being over individual interests.

He also pledged his commitment to helping transform the school into a full-fledged high school and to establishing a Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) program within the community.

“Liberia needs a new generation of young leaders who are deeply rooted in character and national consciousness,” he said. “It starts with how you treat your teachers, how you serve your school, and how you speak about Liberia. Even the smallest act of service or gratitude can spark meaningful progress.”

Hon. Dukuly also encouraged students to remain focused on their education and to view knowledge as a powerful tool for positive change.

He reminded them that with discipline and determination, every young Liberian has the potential to rise above challenges and contribute significantly to the nation’s development.

The ceremony, held on the school’s campus, was attended by faculty, community leaders, and parents, who applauded the NPA Managing Director for taking the time to inspire the next generation.

His message aligns with broader national efforts to promote values-based education and civic responsibility, especially among youth in underserved communities.
