GANTA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has initiated a full-scale investigation into a reported gang rape involving a 60-year-old woman in Ganta, Nimba County.
According to police sources, one suspect has been apprehended and charged, while another remains at large. A manhunt is underway to bring the second suspect to justice.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fugitive is the son of a serving LNP officer.
That officer is now under investigation by the Professional Standards Department for allegedly attempting to obstruct his son’s arrest.
Police have assured the public that the matter will be handled with full fairness and transparency.
In an official statement, the LNP condemned all forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims’ rights and ensuring justice is served without fear or favor.
“The LNP remains resolute in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no individual—regardless of status or affiliation—is above the law,” the statement said.
Authorities further assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency and sensitivity toward the victim and her family.
Citizens are encouraged to assist in the investigation and to report SGBV incidents through trusted community mechanisms.
The LNP pledged to keep the public updated as the investigation progresses, in line with its commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust.
