Vice President Jeremiah Koung Reaffirms Liberia–China Economic Partnership

By: Cooper K Sangar Jr

CHINA – Vice President Jeremiah Koung has reaffirmed Liberia’s dedication to strengthening its economic cooperation with China, with a focus on enhancing trade and creating a more conducive environment for investment.

Speaking at the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha City, VP Koung emphasized that in today’s global political economy, partnerships between nations must be grounded in mutual economic interests that support sustainable development and international cooperation.

He highlighted China as one of Liberia’s most significant economic partners, noting its contribution to major national development projects in key sectors such as roads, healthcare, education, agriculture, and energy.

“China has emerged as one of Liberia’s most significant economic partners, contributing to major national projects in areas such as roads, health, education, agriculture, and energy,” VP Koung stated.

“In return, Liberia has consistently supported China’s global positions and reaffirms our adherence to the One China Policy, in recognition of China’s territorial integrity. We welcome China’s economic presence as a catalyst for growth and post-conflict recovery.”

The Vice President also acknowledged that over the years, the African continent has developed strong economic ties with China, anchored in investment, infrastructure development, trade, and technical cooperation. He added that strategic partnerships and diplomatic relations have flourished, with China’s investments rapidly increasing across Africa—Liberia included.

VP Koung described the forum as not only a time to celebrate collective achievements but also an opportunity to explore new avenues for broader collaboration. He underscored Liberia’s wealth of natural resources, its human potential, and its many untapped opportunities.

“With China’s advanced capabilities and Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, we can unlock transformative partnerships in energy, mining, infrastructure, technology, and agriculture,” he said.

He concluded by inviting Chinese business leaders and entrepreneurs to view Liberia not just as a market, but as a strategic partner for long-term economic growth and development.
