Monrovia, Liberia – ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has signed its 6th Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the United Workers Union of Liberia (UWUL), Local #4, marking a significant milestone in strengthening labor relations and enhancing employee welfare.
The new agreement, finalized on Wednesday, delivers multiple benefits to employees, including a 14.5% salary increase, 15 days of paid annual leave, and a 75% increase in housing allowance aimed at helping workers achieve homeownership.
“Today is a proud day for the workers of ArcelorMittal Liberia,” said UWUL Local #4 President Sneh.
“After two months of negotiations, we are signing the sixth CBA, a document that reflects the sweat, sacrifice, and determination of our members.

This agreement improves salaries, housing allowances, and includes a commitment to job mapping and restructuring within six months to ensure fairness and transparency.”
AML Chief Operating Officer Anthony P. Kocken, speaking on behalf of CEO Michiel Van Der Merwe, thanked both management and workforce negotiation teams.
He emphasized that the agreement demonstrates AML’s recognition of its workforce as “the heartbeat of our operations” and serves as a cornerstone for partnership as the company advances its Phase Two Expansion Project.
“We’re very pleased with this outcome,” Kocken said. “The CEO congratulates everyone involved and appreciates their dedication in reaching this achievement.”
The 6th CBA is expected to strengthen industrial harmony, improve employee satisfaction, and boost productivity in Liberia’s mining sector, highlighting AML’s ongoing commitment to fostering a respectful and collaborative workplace.
