MONROVIA – Former House Speaker Fonati Koffa and Representatives Abu Kamara, Dixon Seboe, and Jacob Debee have been remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison in connection with the alleged arson attack on the rotunda of the Capitol Building.
The Liberia National Police (LNP) has concluded its investigation into the December 2024 arson incident, identifying a group of suspects—including current and former lawmakers—who now face a range of serious criminal charges.
According to the LNP, Representatives Koffa, Seboe, Debee, and Kamara have been formally charged with multiple offenses, including criminal conspiracy, arson, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Investigators allege the lawmakers held planning meetings and provided logistical support for the attack.
At a press conference in Monrovia, Inspector General Gregory Coleman described the attack as a “direct assault on the foundation of Liberia’s democracy.” He emphasized that the investigation uncovered evidence of political motivation behind the act, pointing to a network of planners, participants, and facilitators.
Following their arrest and an initial night in police custody, the lawmakers were transferred to the Monrovia Central Prison on the orders of the Monrovia City Court, where judicial proceedings have commenced.

In response to the arrests, four opposition political parties—the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Citizen Movement for Change (CMC), Alternative National Congress (ANC), and the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE)—have issued a joint statement demanding the unconditional release of the accused lawmakers.
The opposition coalition has accused the Boakai administration of weaponizing state institutions to suppress dissent and intimidate opposition figures.
As of now, the government has not officially responded to these allegations.
