Speaking at the event, Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, highlighted the deep-rooted historical connections linking Liberia and Barbados, noting the contributions of Liberians of Bajan descent to Liberia’s growth and development.
“Barbados has played an important role in sectors such as media, communications, law, and other key areas that have helped shape Liberia’s progress,” Minister Nyanti stated.
The Minister also revealed plans for a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will allow Liberian nurses to travel to Barbados for employment opportunities, describing it as a mutually beneficial initiative.
She emphasized the vast opportunities in tourism, agriculture, and fisheries, noting that the visa waiver will simplify travel and strengthen cultural and economic exchanges.
“The relationship between Liberia and Barbados is rooted in shared history and mutual respect,” Minister Nyanti said. “These agreements will further open doors for economic cooperation and cultural exchange between our two nations.”
She also conveyed warm greetings from His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., to his Bajan counterpart, reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations.
Additionally, Minister Nyanti expressed Liberia’s anticipation of Barbados establishing a museum in Crozerville, Montserrado County, as a symbol of the enduring historical connection between the two countries.
Barbados’ High Commissioner to Liberia, H.E. Juliette Bynoe Sutherland, lauded the successful conclusion of the agreements and pledged her government’s full commitment to their implementation.
“These agreements reflect our shared vision for stronger collaboration and mutual development. Barbados remains committed to working closely with Liberia to ensure that the benefits are realized for our people,” High Commissioner Sutherland said.
The visa waiver agreement is expected to facilitate smoother travel for citizens of both nations, while the political consultation framework will provide a structured platform for regular diplomatic engagement on issues of mutual interest.
Together, these initiatives are set to reinforce the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and shared development between Liberia and Barbados.
