MONROVIA – Simeon Freeman, Political Leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), has taken aim at Liberia’s voting culture, warning that the habit of electing leaders without vision is holding the country back.
Speaking to residents of the Chicken Soup Factory community in Montserrado County’s District #12, Freeman stressed the urgency of choosing leaders with the capacity to drive genuine national progress.
“You cannot elect a poor person and expect them to transform the country,” Freeman said, arguing that economic instability often prevents leaders from focusing on the broader interests of the people.
He cautioned voters against supporting candidates motivated by personal gain, insisting such individuals would likely prioritize their families over national development.
Freeman also reflected on his own political experience, referencing his defeat in the 2023 presidential elections.
He warned citizens to avoid electing what he termed “hungry people,” noting that such leaders are prone to corruption and self-interest once in power.
As Liberia moves toward the 2029 elections, Freeman urged citizens to engage in thoughtful decision-making and carefully assess candidates’ vision, capacity, and track record.
Freeman emphasized that informed choices at the ballot box are crucial if the country is to chart a brighter course.
“Liberians must be more discerning,” he said. “The future of this country depends on the leaders we choose.”
