MONROVIA – Former Nimba County Superintendent Hon. David Dorr Cooper has criticized supporters of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), accusing them of repeating what he describes as provocative political displays involving images of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

In a statement, Cooper alleged that during the 2023 general and presidential elections, some CDC supporters carried an empty casket bearing President Boakai’s photograph during political activities.
He claimed that the display was later followed by a deadly traffic accident along the Monrovia-Ganta Highway that claimed the lives of several CDC supporters.
Cooper further referred to a more recent political gathering involving former President George Weah, alleging that another casket bearing President Boakai’s photograph was paraded during the arrival activities.
He linked that incident to the subsequent death of former Grand Bassa County Superintendent and CDC stalwart Janjay Baikpeh.
Baikpeh, who served as Grand Bassa County superintendent from 2018 until January 2024 under the Weah administration, died in August 2026. Reports at the time said the circumstances and specific cause of his death had not been publicly established.
Cooper said he is particularly concerned about what he described as a “FAKE AI generated image” allegedly being circulated by CDC supporters while President Boakai is attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“Today, while President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is strongly pushing Liberia’s plights at the United Nations General Assembly, a FAKE AI generated image is being developed and posted by CDCIANS inviting another horrible tragedy upon themselves,” Cooper wrote.
The former superintendent did not provide evidence establishing that the alleged political displays caused or contributed to the deaths he referenced. His comments therefore represent his interpretation of events rather than an established causal link.
Baikpeh’s death was confirmed by the CDC and widely reported in August. He was later laid to rest in Grand Bassa County on September 19, 2026, with former President George Weah among those attending the funeral activities.
Cooper’s statement comes amid continued political exchanges between supporters of the governing Unity Party and the opposition CDC, as Liberia’s political actors remain active both domestically and around President Boakai’s engagements at the United Nations.
