The motorcycles were presented on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, through the government’s Health Security Project, which is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the EPA under the One Health approach.

Speaking during the presentation, Rafael Ngumbu, Director of the EPA’s Department of Environmental Research and Radiation Safety and focal point for the project, said the motorcycles would improve the mobility of environmental inspectors, particularly in counties where transportation challenges limit field activities.

Mr. Ngumbu emphasized that environmental protection is essential to safeguarding human and animal health.

He said the project is also providing the EPA with 15 laptops, laboratory equipment valued at approximately US$200,000, and postgraduate scholarships to strengthen the technical capacity of its staff.

Receiving the motorcycles, EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo thanked the government for the support, noting that reliable transportation is critical for environmental officers conducting inspections and responding to environmental threats.

He said the motorcycles were selected to withstand rough terrain and the demands of fieldwork.

Meanwhile, Representative Jeremiah Garwo Sokan Sr., Chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Mines, Energy, Natural Resources and Environment, welcomed the donation and urged the EPA to ensure the motorcycles are properly used and maintained. The 15 motorcycles are expected to strengthen the agency’s field operations and improve environmental surveillance across Liberia.
