The project, known as the Strengthening Agricultural Resilience Through Transformational Livelihood Adaptation in Liberia (SARTLA), was officially launched on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Belle Cassa Hotel in Monrovia.
The five-year program, which will run from 2025 to 2030, is designed to support vulnerable communities in Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi, Maryland, and Montserrado Counties.
It focuses on promoting climate-smart agriculture, restoring degraded ecosystems, strengthening sustainable livelihoods, and expanding access to innovative financing opportunities for rural farmers and entrepreneurs.
At the launch ceremony, stakeholders underscored the growing threat of climate change to Liberia’s agricultural sector and food systems.
They emphasized the urgent need to build resilience, improve food security, and create sustainable economic opportunities, particularly for women and young people who remain among the most affected by environmental and economic vulnerabilities.
Officials also highlighted the importance of protecting Liberia’s natural resources through community-driven environmental management and long-term adaptation strategies.
The SARTLA project is expected to directly benefit thousands of Liberians through capacity-building programs, agricultural training, enterprise development, and targeted climate adaptation interventions aimed at improving productivity and resilience in rural communities.
With its multi-stakeholder approach, the initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening Liberia’s response to climate change while promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
