By: Exodus T. Weah – Bong County

According to eyewitness accounts and fire victim D. Sam Baryougah Elliott Sr., the incident occurred around 11:25 AM when high-tension electrical lines connected to a transformer at Pot Boiling Junction allegedly detached and fell to the ground, sparking flames.

The fire reportedly destroyed a five-bedroom house along with a nearby shop.

The victims, believed to be the 4- and 5-year-old grandchildren of Bong County Administrative Officer Elliott, were said to have died at the scene.

Eyewitnesses further alleged that technicians from JEP had earlier worked on the house’s electricity meter due to a power-related issue before the incident occurred.

Residents of the community are now calling on the Liberia National Fire Service and the Liberia National Police to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two children.

As of now, JEP management has not released an official statement concerning the incident.
