US Embassy Delegation Visits AFL Troops in Grand Cape Mount County

Grand Cape Mount County – A delegation from the United States Embassy near Monrovia comprising Major Samuel Winsted, Marine Attaché and Major Matthew Brown, Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation visited deployed AFL officers carrying on “OPERATION TRUE GUARDIAN” in Grand Cape Mount County on 26 March 2025.

“OPERATION TRUE GUARDIAN” is a military patrol operation that is expected to be conducted quarterly across Liberia.

“The operation commenced on 24 March 2025 in the Western Liberia Region (Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu Counties) with the deployment of well prepared and motivated Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) troops.” An army statement said.

“OPERATION TRUE GUARDIAN” aims to restore public trust, bolster national security and ensure the safety and stability of Liberia’s borders and coastal areas.

According to the national army, the operation also aims to project the AFL’s preparedness to safeguard Liberia’s national borders, deter transnational organized and maritime crime, and maintain internal security, while fostering cooperation with local communities and law enforcement agencies.

A Team of AFL personnel headed by Colonel Joseph Gayflor, Chief of Operations, AFL, accompanied the US delegation to Grand Cape Mount County for the visit.

When asked, Colonel Gayflor informed the Public Affairs Department of the AFL that the purpose of the visit was to observe the execution of the operation and determine gaps (challenges) for possible assistance from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB).
