SALAYEA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has officially broken ground for the construction of the 50-kilometer Salayea–Konia Road and the 6-kilometer Zorzor–Yeala Road, describing the projects as a major step toward expanding infrastructure, creating jobs, and accelerating economic development in Liberia.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks another milestone under Pillar Two of the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which prioritizes modern infrastructure, improved public services, employment opportunities, and inclusive economic growth.
President Boakai said the new road projects will strengthen regional connectivity, facilitate trade, improve access to education and healthcare, and stimulate economic activities throughout Lofa County and neighboring communities.
Construction of the two road corridors is expected to begin during the upcoming dry season. Once underway, the projects are anticipated to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs while boosting agriculture, commerce, investment, and cross-border trade.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Boakai said the roads represent more than transportation infrastructure.
“These roads are building more than roads; they are creating opportunities for farmers, traders, students, businesses, and families. They will connect communities, expand economic opportunity, strengthen regional integration, and improve the quality of life of our people,” the President said.
US$190 Million Electricity Project
In another major infrastructure announcement, the Government revealed that it has secured approval for US$190 million in financing from the Saudi Fund for Development for the Botota–Gbarnga–Zorzor Transmission Line and Substation Project.
The energy project will connect four substations and provide electricity access to approximately 380,000 households across Bong and Lofa Counties, significantly expanding power coverage in central and northern Liberia.
According to the Government, the transmission line project is expected to strengthen the country’s electricity network, support industrial development, improve business opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents.
The combined investments in transportation and energy infrastructure are also expected to improve connectivity with neighboring Guinea while supporting long-term economic growth across the region.
President Boakai praised Liberia’s development partners for their continued commitment to the country’s infrastructure agenda, emphasizing that the partnerships extend beyond financing to advancing Liberia’s long-term development goals.
He urged Liberians to protect the nation’s development gains and support the Government’s efforts to build a more connected, prosperous, and inclusive country.
“We are laying the foundation for a more connected, more prosperous, and more inclusive Liberia,” President Boakai concluded.
