Grand Cape Mount County – In a decisive move against the scourge of drug trafficking, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has intercepted a major cocaine shipment valued at USD 27,891 (approximately LD 5,299,290) during a routine search at the Bo Waterside Post of Entry in Grand Cape Mount County.
“At around 3:30 PM on March 27, 2025, authorities stopped Francis K. Davis (45), a Ghanaian national and vehicle conductor from West Point, Monrovia, as he entered Liberia from Sierra Leone in a vehicle bearing the plate number A113952. A standard search conducted at the Bo Waterside warehouse revealed nothing initially unusual; however, upon departure, Davis inadvertently left behind a car tail light.” LDEA said.
“The LDEA said abandoned tail light aroused suspicion among LDEA officers, prompting a closer inspection. Hidden within the component were five wrapped packets of a white powdery substance. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance as cocaine, leading to a swift escalation of the operation.” That’s according to the LDEA.
When approached regarding the missing tail light, Davis admitted awareness of the seizure but maintained that he was unaware of its contents. He explained that the tail light had been given to him in Sierra Leone by a woman who instructed him to deliver it to her husband—a truck driver. Seizing an opportunity to assist in a larger investigation, Davis agreed to help the LDEA track down the owner of the illicit cargo.
In a coordinated effort, a four-man team led by the Chief of the Special Drug Squad (SDS) at the Grand Cape Mount County Detachment was dispatched to Duala. With Davis’s crucial cooperation and effective coordination with local police, the investigation rapidly led to the arrest of Michael Chidiebeara (40), a Nigerian national residing on Benson Street in Monrovia. Chidiebeara was apprehended at approximately 9:30 PM after his involvement was confirmed through questioning, during which he confessed to possessing the drugs.
This operation marks a significant achievement in Liberia’s ongoing battle against illegal drug networks. The LDEA’s proactive approach not only intercepts dangerous contraband but also underscores its steadfast commitment to safeguarding Liberia’s borders and communities from the destabilizing influence of drug trafficking.
Authorities have confirmed that Michael Chidiebeara will face charges and subsequent prosecution in court, as the LDEA continues to work tirelessly to dismantle cross-border drug networks and uphold the nation’s security.
