Samuel Kogar Wins Nimba County Senatorial By-Election

NIMBA COUNTY – The National Elections Commission has declared government backed candidate Samuel Kogar as the winner of the April 22, 2025 by-election in Nimba County.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) at a news conference on Thursday said Kogar obtained 62,136 votes representing 52.08% while his closet challenger Edith Gongloe-Weh obtained a vote of 40,506 constituting 33.95%.

The votes counted are from all 736 polling places across the entire Nimba County.

Another By-election in Sight

The winner of the by-election is the current Representative of Nimba County District #5.

Kogar got elected to represent the district for the second time during the 2023 general election.

As he is now declared winner of the by-election in Nimba, another vacancy for the district seat has been created.

The National Elections Commission in the coming months will have to conduct another by-election in Nimba County District #5 to fill the vacant seat.

Meanwhile, Senate Protemp Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has congratulated Samuel Kogar on his victory as Senator-elect for Nimba County.

“Congratulations to Representative Samuel G. Kogar on his remarkable victory in the Nimba County by-election.

“We look forward to welcoming you to the house of elders.” She wrote on Facebook.
