Paynesville City – The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has been crowned champion of the 2025 Intra-Governmental League after a hard-fought victory over the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA).
The final was held Friday evening at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The “Marine Boys” successfully defended their title with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to an early goal from Boakai Fully.
Despite several efforts, LTA—who were eager to lift the trophy for the first time—were unable to equalize, allowing LiMA to maintain their lead until the final whistle.
In the kickball category, the National Lottery Authority (NLA) emerged as champions after a dramatic win in a penalty shootout.
The “Lottery Girls” faced a tough match, drawing 3-3 across all five innings. The tense tiebreaker was decided after a penalty kick helped them reach second base, narrowly clinching victory.
However, the finals were marred by controversy. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, which hosted the tournament, reacted angrily following the conclusion of the kickball final.
Accusations of unfair officiating led to chaos, with players, spectators, and even some government officials reportedly hurling insults, chairs, and other objects at the referees.
Elsewhere in the tournament:
- The Ministry of Youth and Sports claimed third place in football, defeating the Ministry of State 2-1.
- In a highly anticipated kickball match, the LPRC Girls defeated the Judiciary 3-2 in what many described as one of the most entertaining and competitive games of the tournament.
The 2025 Intra-Governmental League once again showcased the spirit of unity and competition among Liberia’s public institutions, despite the unfortunate disruptions during the final.
