Monrovia – Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, has delivered a compelling keynote address to Liberia’s leadership, calling for bold reforms, youth empowerment, and unity under the theme: “Liberia: Arise, and Shine!”

As he nears the end of his decade-long presidency, Adesina reflected on Liberia’s legacy of peace, its founding role in the Bank’s creation, and its untapped potential.

“Liberia must shine—for its people, for Africa, and for the Black race,” he declared.

AfDB’s Lasting Impact in Liberia

The African Development Bank President told the gathering of senior Liberian government officials that the bank has invested over $1 billion in Liberia since 1967, with 18 active projects totaling $397 million.

Major achievements include: 177 km of roads linking key regions like Fishtown–Harper, 2,434 km of power lines and nearly 40,000 new electric connection, $16 million investment in Africa’s first Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank, inaugurated alongside President Boakai

Adesina also pledged support for President Boakai’s “ARREST” agenda (Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism), urging measurable results and teamwork across government.

A Vision for Liberia’s Future

Adesina encouraged reforms in civil service and justice, accountability in leadership, and a shift from raw exports to value-added production.

“Liberia has no business being poor,” he emphasized.

His visit reinforces AfDB’s enduring partnership with Liberia—anchored in history and focused on transformation.
