Lofa Lawmaker Calls for Calm Over Disappearance of Elder Sackie in Ziggida

Lofa County Augustine B. Chiewolo, Representative of District #5, Lofa County, has expressed deep concern over the disappearance of Elder Sackie in Ziggida town, an incident that has sparked growing tension and unrest among residents.

Elder Sackie was reported missing more than two weeks ago after returning from a traditional ritual in neighboring Guinea.

According to accounts, two men who accompanied him — Zazay-Boi Kpadeh and Noowo-ku — claimed that Sackie, allegedly intoxicated, fell behind the group on their way back.

However, dissatisfied with this explanation, townspeople detained the pair and blocked the main road, preventing Liberia National Police (LNP) officers from taking the men in for questioning.

In a statement, Representative Chiewolo urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities. “While we understand the frustration and concern of the community, it is essential to allow the Liberia National Police to handle the investigation and ensure that justice is served,” he said.

The Lofa lawmaker strongly condemned the barricading of roads and unlawful detention of suspects by locals, stressing that such actions risk escalating the already tense situation. He appealed to traditional leaders, youth, and other stakeholders in Ziggida to prioritize peace and leave the matter to law enforcement.

“We must work together to find a peaceful resolution to this crisis and avoid any actions that may worsen the situation,” Chiewolo emphasized.

The LNP has since launched an investigation into the matter, with assurances from Representative Chiewolo that all efforts are being made to locate Elder Sackie and bring those responsible to justice.

The Representative also renewed his appeal for calm, urging the public to give the police the space to conduct their work.
