Capitol Hill – Senator Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lofa County University (LCU), has distanced himself from a recently published resolution of the Board, describing it as inaccurate and inconsistent with the decision actually reached.
At a duly convened meeting, the Board reportedly resolved that university officials indicted by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) be recused from their duties pending the outcome of legal proceedings before the 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Voinjama.
The move, according to Senator Cyrus, was intended to safeguard the integrity of the institution while allowing due process to proceed unhindered.
However, Senator Cyrus expressed concern that the resolution made public by the University failed to include any provision requiring indicted officials to step aside.
He described the omission as “both troubling and inconsistent with the Board’s established commitment to accountability.”
“While I firmly uphold the principle that every accused person is innocent until proven guilty, it is equally imperative to adhere to sound administrative standards,” Senator Cyrus said.
“Officials facing serious allegations should step aside temporarily to allow for an independent and transparent process. This is critical for preserving public confidence in LCU and the credibility of our higher education institutions.”
The Lofa County Senator reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, calling on the LCU administration to immediately correct the resolution to reflect the Board’s true decision.
He also urged all stakeholders to ensure the University maintains credibility during this sensitive period.
