By: Staff Writer

MONROVIA – The Monrovia City Court has issued a writ of arrest for Oretha Sumo, a kitchen staff member and dietician at Monrovia Central Prison, for her alleged involvement in the unlicensed possession, sale, and distribution of controlled drugs.

Court documents state that the arrest order was issued on November 3, 2025, following a complaint filed by the Ministry of Justice.

According to the documents, the incident occurred on October 31, 2025, during a routine search conducted by prison authorities within the Monrovia Central Prison compound.

During the operation, Sumo was allegedly observed throwing a substance through a window, which officers later recovered outside the building. The substance, identified as Kush, reportedly has a street value of US$1,000.

The Ministry of Justice described the act as criminal, illegal, and unconstitutional, noting that it violates Section 14.107 of the New Penal Law of Liberia.

The writ was issued to ensure legal action in accordance with statutory laws governing the possession and distribution of controlled substances.
