Grand Bassa County — The Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, Karyou Johnson, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to women and girls’ empowerment through sustained support for capacity-building initiatives across the county.
Superintendent Johnson made the assurance on Tuesday during a meeting with the management of the Bassa Women Development Association (BAWODA) at his Robert Street office in Buchanan City.
The engagement, described as fruitful by both parties, was aimed at assessing the progress of BAWODA’s Tailoring Program, which was launched in November this year at the organization’s headquarters.
BAWODA Executive Director, Ms. Vera P. Kweh, provided an update on the program, highlighting the enthusiastic enrollment of participants, the strong commitment of trainers, and the positive visibility the initiative has brought to the institution. Her presentation reportedly impressed the Grand Bassa County Chief Executive.
While commending the County Administration for its continued support, Ms. Kweh also outlined key challenges confronting BAWODA, notably the lack of sustainable electricity at its headquarters.
She further stressed the urgent need for assistance to reactivate the organization’s Pastry and Soap Production programs, which she said are critical to empowering more women and young ladies in line with BAWODA’s vision and mission.
According to Ms. Kweh, a full assessment for the installation of solar panels at the BAWODA headquarters has already been completed, with documentation available, while assessment works for the renovation of the pastry department are currently ongoing.
In response, Superintendent Johnson recommitted the County Administration to supporting BAWODA’s programs, disclosing his readiness to intervene through budgetary appropriation and by seeking partnerships with stakeholders and development partners.
He emphasized that such support would help sustain the vision and legacy of Mother Martha Flanjay Karnga, whom he described as a pioneer of women’s transformation in Grand Bassa County.
The pre-Christmas engagement concluded on a celebratory note, with the management and staff of BAWODA presenting Superintendent Johnson with a framed graphic portrait featuring his photographs as a birthday gift.
The gesture was warmly received by the Superintendent, who immediately had the portrait displayed in his office as a sign of appreciation for the association’s recognition and support.
