Senator Dillon Denies Plot to Block Youth and Sports Minister-Designate Kruah

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has strongly denied allegations that he conspired to block the confirmation of Youth and Sports Minister-Designate Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, describing the claims as false, dangerous, and deeply divisive.

Senator Dillon made the clarification during Kruah’s confirmation hearing before the Liberian Senate, where he refuted assertions reportedly circulated by groups linked to Nimba County suggesting a secret meeting aimed at derailing her confirmation.

“I reject that statement completely,” Dillon said. “It is wrong, misleading, and dangerous. These kinds of allegations breed division and could create fear and panic, including threats to my personal safety.”

The Montserrado County lawmaker pointed to his legislative record, emphasizing his consistent support for public officials from Nimba County, including Minister-Designate Kruah.

He urged the Senate to recognize his efforts to promote national unity and cautioned against the influence of tribal or county-based politics in national decision-making.

In response, Kruah thanked Senator Dillon and other members of the Senate for their clarifications, recounting her long-standing relationship with the Montserrado County Senator, which she described as rooted in mutual support and political friendship.

She assured lawmakers that, if confirmed, she would work to promote constructive civic engagement among young people across the country.

The confirmation hearing ended with renewed calls for unity and issue-based national discourse, as senators warned that tribal and county divisions have no place in Liberia’s democratic governance.
