Liberian Senate Pledges Cautious Approach to Border Situation with Guinea

CAPITOL HILL – The President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to addressing the ongoing border situation with Guinea with caution and urgency.

Speaking at the close of the first quarter of the Senate’s third session, she said the Legislature remains alert and fully engaged in safeguarding national peace, security, and the well-being of citizens.

Ms Karnga-Lawrence assured that the Senate would adopt a balanced approach, combining firmness with diplomacy, while supporting the Executive Branch in pursuing peaceful dialogue with Guinea.

She also expressed appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for his recent engagement with lawmakers, noting that cooperation between the branches of government is essential in addressing national challenges.

The Senate Pro-Tempore further disclosed that measures have been put in place to ensure continuity in governance and oversight during the legislative recess.

Meanwhile, key Senate committees, including Defense, Ways and Means, and Internal Affairs, have been tasked with working closely with Senate leadership to monitor the border situation.

According to her, the committees will also assess economic conditions and support timely government responses aimed at addressing the needs of the Liberian people.
