MONROVIA – The Chinese Embassy near Monrovia on Friday hosted the official launch of Liberia’s participation in the Guizhou Village Super League Friendly Matches, with government officials and sports authorities emphasising youth development and international cooperation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu said the initiative reflects the growing partnership between Liberia and China, using sport to strengthen cultural ties and promote people-to-people exchange.

Youth and Sports Minister, Atty. Cornelia Kruah, described the opportunity as a significant boost for young Liberian athletes, noting that exposure to international platforms is essential for building discipline, confidence and competitiveness.
Assistant coach Samir Kamara expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, saying the players are well prepared to represent Liberia.
Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Samuel A. Stevquoah, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting youth through sports development initiatives.
The Guizhou Village Super League Friendly Matches, a fast-growing grassroots football competition in China, combines community participation with competitive play while promoting cultural exchange among participating countries.
Fifteen young athletes, each representing one of Liberia’s 15 counties, are expected to compete, marking another step in expanding opportunities for the country’s emerging talent on the international stage.
