MONROVIA – Liberia’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, has held discussions with the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy near Monrovia, Joseph Zadrozny, as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen cooperation in the ongoing investigation into the reported seizure of narcotic substances valued at approximately US$19 million.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the meeting focused on the progress of the investigation and formed part of the Government of Liberia’s continued engagement with international partners to ensure that the probe is conducted professionally, independently and in accordance with the law.
The Ministry said both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating transnational organized crime and enhancing Liberia’s capacity to investigate and prosecute complex narcotics offences.
During the discussions, Justice Minister Tweh outlined the significant logistical and technical challenges confronting Liberia’s law enforcement and criminal justice institutions in investigating sophisticated transnational drug trafficking networks.
The Ministry noted that dismantling organized criminal cartels requires advanced investigative techniques, specialized forensic capabilities, modern equipment, intelligence sharing and sustained international cooperation.
According to the statement, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Joseph Zadrozny reaffirmed the commitment of the United States Government to continue supporting Liberia by strengthening the country’s investigative and technical capacity.
The Ministry said the assistance is intended to enhance the ability of Liberian authorities to conduct thorough, evidence-based investigations that meet international standards.
The Ministry of Justice expressed appreciation for the continued partnership of the United States and other international partners, describing their support as important to strengthening Liberia’s criminal justice institutions and improving the country’s capacity to combat illicit drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
The reported seizure of narcotic substances valued at approximately US$19 million remains under investigation.
