MONROVIA – Liberia is strengthening its regional leadership in public-sector accountability as a team of auditors from the General Auditing Commission (GAC) provides technical support to the Gambia Audit Office in strengthening its audit follow-up system.

The Liberian delegation, led by Deputy Auditors General Winsley Nanka and G. Cecil Dole, is in Banjul as part of a cooperation agreement signed between the two Supreme Audit Institutions in May 2026.
The engagement focuses on Liberia’s Audit Follow-Up Program, a flagship initiative of the GAC introduced under the leadership of Auditor General Hon. P. Garswa Jackson.
The program is designed to move government auditing beyond identifying weaknesses by ensuring that audit findings and recommendations are followed through to implementation.
Under the May 2026 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the GAC is providing technical assistance to the Gambia Audit Office to establish and strengthen mechanisms for tracking audit recommendations, monitoring corrective actions, and assessing the extent to which audited institutions address issues raised in audit reports.
During the engagement, the Liberian delegation will share practical lessons from Liberia’s experience and provide technical guidance on audit follow-up mechanisms, data analysis, and the use of tools to monitor the implementation of corrective measures.
The initiative has also positioned Liberia as a growing source of technical expertise among Supreme Audit Institutions within the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), with several institutions seeking the GAC’s assistance in developing or strengthening their own audit follow-up programs.
The delegation includes Anthony Henry, Head of Audit Follow-Up at the GAC, and his deputy, Jerome Kesselly, who are accompanying Deputy Auditors General Nanka and Dole.
The Liberia-Gambia collaboration is expected to deepen institutional cooperation while promoting stronger accountability, improved public financial management, and greater implementation of audit recommendations in both countries.
The engagement further underscores Liberia’s emerging role in sharing practical public-sector accountability tools and strengthening audit institutions across the region.
