MONROVIA – In a major step toward strengthening youth-led community leadership, the Liberia Scout Association has successfully concluded a five-day Messenger of Peace training at the Lott Carey Baptist Mission.

Held under the theme “Building Safe and Resilient Scouting in Liberia,” the intensive training brought together 59 young Scouts and 25 adult volunteers, with a focus on strengthening safety standards, leadership capacity, and organizational integrity across the country.
During the training, facilitators conducted an in-depth review of the movement’s 21 governing policies and distributed 200 printed copies to ensure that Scouts and leaders at all operational levels have access to clear and consistent policy guidelines.
Participants also completed a comprehensive Safe from Harm module, gaining practical knowledge and strategies to identify, prevent, and respond to potential risks in youth environments.
The training brought youth and adult leaders together, reinforcing the principle that safety, accountability, and responsibility are shared duties within the Scouting movement.
The program was facilitated by a consultant from the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and funded by the World Scout Bureau’s Africa Support Center, with additional support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Project Manager Musu D. Zawolo said the initiative was designed to strengthen the Association’s governance structures and leadership capacity.
“Our objective was to strengthen governance structures and enhance leadership capacity to deliver Scouting to the youth of Liberia in a safe manner,” Zawolo stated.
Equipped with new knowledge, practical tools, and official policy guidelines, the 84 participants are expected to return to their respective regions, counties, districts, and local troops to promote safer and more resilient Scouting environments across Liberia.
