MONROVIA – Former Grand Bassa County Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh has died according to multiple reports emerging Sunday.

Baikpeh, who served as Superintendent of Grand Bassa County from 2018 until January 2024 under the administration of former President George Weah, was a longtime and prominent member of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).

The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been established.

News of Baikpeh’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief among political figures, friends, colleagues and supporters, with several prominent Liberians taking to social media to mourn his passing and extend condolences to his family.

Among those expressing grief are former Grand Bassa County Representative Vincent Willie and former Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, along with other political figures and associates.

Baikpeh was widely known for his involvement in Liberian politics and his leadership of Grand Bassa County during the administration of the former Weah administration.

During his tenure as county superintendent, his public engagements also made him a recognizable figure in the county’s political and social affairs.
