President Boakai’s ‘Dangerous Overreach’ Will be Resisted – STAND Promises

By: Kabina S. Kabah

MONROVIA – The new civil society advocacy group Solidarity and Trust for a New Day has described President Boakai’s response to the recent Supreme Court ruling as ‘dangerous overreach’ and vowed to resist it.

President Boakai acknowledged the ruling of the court which recognizes Koffa as the Speaker of the House but said his government will work with the group that has quorum.

STAND in a statement issued in response to the President decision on later Thursday said, the president’s unfortunate action is a willful defiance of the Court’s supreme authority and a grave betrayal of Liberia’s constitutional foundation.

“Such thoughtless contempt for judicial finality threatens the very fabric of our democracy and cannot, and will not, be tolerated. The President’s brazen defiance of both law and logic is far more than a mere disagreement; it is a shocking and deliberate affront to the authority of the nation’s highest court, and a reckless attempt to elevate political self-interest above the rule of law.” STAND said.

STAND has issued a stern warning that no president, no politician, and no self-styled bloc of lawmakers is above the Constitution.

“This dangerous overreach will be resisted with the full weight of the people’s will. STAND fiercely and sternly rejects President Boakai’s unlawful actions.”

STAND averred that the President refusal to fully honor the Supreme Court’s ruling is not just a constitutional breach, but is a full-blown assault on our democracy and said by trampling on the authority of the Court, the President has sadly declared war on the rule of law, endangered national stability, and is dragging Liberia dangerously close to the chaos and tyranny of its darkest days.

“We will not allow history to repeat itself. The People will not allow it. STAND, united with the people, will confront this unlawful defiance with unwavering resolve and organized action.” The statement said.

“We will stand as guardians of Liberia’s democracy, defending our institutions against any attempt to subvert them. The rule of law must prevail. And, we will ensure that no one, not even the presidency, is allowed to trample it.”

According to STAND, Together, Liberians will stop this overreach and reclaim the path to justice, stability, and a brighter future for all.

Meanwhile, STAND in collaboration with ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ Movement, announces an emergency meeting of the masses on this Saturday, 26 April 2025 at 2pm at its headquarters in Congo Town.
