Seekon District in Urgent Need of Development – Superintendent Viola Sayweay Says

By: Karino Teah – karinoreah@gmail.com

SINOE COUNTY – Seekon Statutory District Superintendent, Madam Viola Sayweay, is pleading for urgent government intervention to address the real time critical development challenges facing her district.

In conversation will local journalists, Madam Sayweay outlined several concerns, highlighting the lack of basic infrastructure and essential services in the area for residents of the district.

She described Seekon as a large district grappling with severe developmental setbacks.

According to her, poor road conditions have left the district virtually isolated, making travel in and out extremely difficult. “The bad road condition means you hardly see people entering the district. Sometimes, we have to use other routes, taking about four hours just to reach nearby towns.” She told reporters.

“This lack of access discourages high-profile government officials and investors from visiting the district.”

Residing in the district seat of Pellokon, Superintendent Sayweay expressed deep sadness over the lack of government representation in the area. On top of the many challenges, the Superintendent explained how the District lacks modern town hall, guest houses and other facilities including Superintendent Compound.

“The only two government structures in the area are a clinic and a government elementary school.” she explained.

Superintendent Sayweay also decried the lack of electricity in the district, stating that the town remains in complete darkness at night, with no solar lights installed to improve visibility and safety as security concern looms.

“Seekon District does not have a police station or even a security personnel. If someone commits a crime, we have to call for police assistance from Juazon District, which takes about five hours,” she said, emphasizing the risk this poses to residents’ safety.

She called on the Sinoe County Legislative Caucus, the local authorities, and the national government to prioritize Seekon District for immediate development assistance. “We need better roads, electricity, security presence, and government structures to reflect the status of a statutory district,” Madam Sayweay stressed.

Our reporter who visited the district explained how the entire district lacks social and essential services – naming the lack of up-to-date healthcare centers, poor school infrastructure and extremely deplorable roads conditions as challenges confronting residents.
