By: Karino Teah

Butaw, Sinoe County – A 48-year-old fisherman, Cefus Dixon, has died following a violent confrontation along the coastline of Butaw District during the evening hours of Monday, June 30, 2025, between 7:00 and 8:00 PM.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began with a heated argument between Dixon and a 21-year-old man identified only as Oscar. The dispute reportedly stemmed from an earpiece belonging to Dixon’s son. Community members say that when Dixon questioned Oscar about the missing item, Oscar allegedly responded with insults, which escalated into a physical altercation.

Sources reveal that the confrontation initially erupted earlier in the afternoon but was temporarily defused by bystanders.

However, tensions reignited later in the evening, leading to a violent clash. Witnesses claim that Oscar, along with an unidentified accomplice, physically assaulted Dixon. During the assault, Dixon was allegedly stabbed with a knife.

Despite residents’ efforts to rush him to Greenville for emergency medical treatment, Dixon was pronounced dead en route.

The Liberia National Police have since arrested Oscar, the primary suspect in the incident. Authorities say another individual—believed to be a relative of Oscar and also implicated in the attack—is currently at large.

The tragic death of Cefus Dixon has plunged the Butaw community into mourning. Local residents are calling for swift justice and urging authorities to implement stronger measures to curb violence in the area.
