Grand Kru Native Invests $268,000 in Roads and Water Projects

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – A prominent son of Grand Kru County, Mr. Hillary Wleh Gray, has made a significant private investment aimed at improving road infrastructure and access to safe drinking water in Electoral District #2.

Gray, a native of Bolloh-Po in Dorbor District, has purchased a brand-new excavator and bulldozer from Dubai at a cost of US$100,000 each. With shipping and port clearance fees included, the total investment amounts to approximately US$268,000.

The heavy-duty equipment is expected to arrive in the county in the coming days — marking what residents describe as the first time such machinery has been privately acquired and deployed in the district for community development purposes.

Speaking to residents and local stakeholders, Gray said his decision was driven by the long-standing challenges facing the district, particularly poor road conditions that continue to hinder farmers and traders from transporting their goods to market.

“My people have suffered for too long. Bad roads make life difficult for farmers and traders,” Gray said. “I began my mining activities here last year, and now I want to reinvest in the community that gave me the opportunity to succeed.”

In addition to road rehabilitation, Gray is also investing in clean water initiatives. He has completed the installation of eight hand pumps in Bolloh-Po and is currently constructing five additional pumps in Bolloh Kaypo. He emphasized that access to safe drinking water is essential for protecting public health and preserving community dignity.

“We cannot claim to love our people and still allow them to drink unsafe water. This is about dignity and public health,” he added.

Addressing speculation that his development efforts may signal political ambitions ahead of the 2029 elections, Gray dismissed such claims.

“This is not about politics. My goal is simply to give my people a better life — good roads, safe drinking water, and basic services,” he stated.

Gray also criticized both past and current leaders for what he described as years of neglect in the county, urging elected officials to remain accountable to the people they serve.

“You cannot come to the people only during elections, collect their votes, and then turn your back on them,” he said.

He reaffirmed his long-term commitment to Electoral District #2, pledging to continue supporting development initiatives as long as he is able.

Residents have widely welcomed the initiative, describing it as a rare and commendable example of private citizens stepping forward to address urgent community needs.
