LDEA Arrests Two Suspected Drug Traffickers at Bo Waterside Port of Entry

Bo Waterside – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of drug trafficking at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry in Grand Cape Mount County.

The suspects—26-year-old Liberian national Joseph Barclay and 23-year-old Sierra Leonean national David Kalokoh—were apprehended on Saturday, July 6, 2025, for allegedly attempting to smuggle a significant quantity of the narcotic substance known as Kush into Liberia.

According to the LDEA’s Grand Cape Mount County Detachment, the arrests followed an intelligence tip-off about a suspicious vehicle entering the country.

At approximately 2:30 PM, officers intercepted a black Wrangler Jeep being towed due to reported mechanical failure.

Upon conducting a thorough search, agents discovered roughly 1 kilogram of Kush, with an estimated street value of US$20,000 (approximately LD$3.8 million), concealed within the vehicle.

Authorities believe the vehicle’s breakdown may have been a calculated ruse intended to avoid scrutiny at the border. Nevertheless, LDEA officers proceeded with a detailed inspection that led to the discovery of the concealed drugs.

Barclay and Kalokoh were immediately taken into custody. Following preliminary investigations, both men were formally charged with drug trafficking and have been forwarded to the Tienii Magisterial Court for prosecution.

In a statement, the LDEA reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse throughout Liberia.

The agency emphasized that securing the nation’s borders remains a top priority and urged the public to remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious drug-related activities to help protect communities.
