LIBERIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai will on this Monday officially dedicate two newly constructed senior secondary schools in Bong and Nimba Counties.
The inauguration ceremonies will take place in Gbarnga City and Ganta City, marking a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to enhancing learning conditions nationwide.
The schools were constructed under the Ministry of Education’s leadership with funding and technical support from the World Bank through the Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) Project.
These state-of-the-art facilities are part of a broader national initiative to expand educational infrastructure, especially in rural and underserved communities.
Each school campus features fully furnished classrooms, modern science and computer laboratories, administrative offices, gender-sensitive sanitation facilities, clean water systems, perimeter fencing for security, and recreational spaces for students.
These enhancements are designed to improve both access and the quality of education at the senior secondary level.
The facilities were developed under Component 1 of the IRISE Project, which targets improved access and better learning environments in secondary schools.

A third school in Kakata, Margibi County, is nearing completion and is expected to be dedicated later this year.
The Ministry of Education emphasized that the opening of these schools is intended not only to alleviate overcrowding in existing institutions but also to promote inclusivity and equity in education—particularly for girls, whose enrollment and retention rates remain a national priority.
According to the Ministry, both student enrollment and teacher recruitment at the new institutions will be strictly merit-based.
Only top-performing students from the counties will gain admission, and all teaching staff will be highly qualified, having undergone a rigorous selection process.
President Boakai’s presence at the dedication will underscores the central role of education in his administration’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, which prioritizes Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism as pillars for national growth and transformation.
Construction of these schools begun under the administration of ex-president George Weah.
