NIMBA COUNTY – The ongoing lack of electricity at several Liberian border posts has raised serious concerns regarding both the security of these areas and the welfare of the government workers stationed there.
Despite the prolonged power outage, it remains unclear why the government has yet to take decisive action to resolve the issue.
The situation is particularly troubling at the Yekepa border, which continues to operate in complete darkness, in stark contrast to the Buutuo border, where government support has been visibly more consistent.
This disparity in treatment raises questions about the government’s priorities and its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens and personnel tasked with protecting the nation’s borders.
Immediate intervention is crucial. Without reliable electricity, these border posts are left vulnerable, not only compromising national security but also putting undue strain on the lives of the civil servants who work there under difficult conditions.
Residents in the surroundings believe the government must act swiftly to ensure that all border posts are adequately equipped with essential infrastructure.
According to some of them, the security and livelihoods of those on the front lines of national defense depend on it—and they deserve better.
