Capitol Hill – Representative Zinnah Norman of Gbarpolu County Electoral District #1 has accused the Government of Liberia of withholding Legislative Support Project (LSP) Funds for fiscal years 2024 and 2025, leaving his district deprived of resources intended for local development.
Speaking on a local radio station in the county, Rep. Norman alleged that the 2025 allocation for his district was diverted to finance the removal of former Speaker Fonati Kofa.
“The people of District #1 have not seen a dime of the Legislative Support Project Funds for 2024 and 2025,” Norman declared. “Instead, the 2025 money was used for political maneuvering—specifically, the removal of the former Speaker. This is unacceptable.”
The lawmaker stressed that the failure to release the funds is the main reason his constituency has not benefited from the program.
“This fund is not for me; it is for the people,” he emphasized. “When the government withholds it, the direct victims are the communities who depend on these projects for schools, clinics, and basic infrastructure.”
Despite the shortfall, Rep. Norman assured his constituents of his commitment to development. He said he has been lobbying partners and personally contributing to local initiatives using a portion of his own resources.
According to him, his compensation package includes USD 4,000 in salary, LD 300,000, and a USD 1,500 gasoline allowance, half of which he channels into projects in education, health, and community development.
“Even in the absence of the Legislative Support Funds, I cannot abandon my people,” Norman said. “Out of what I earn, I give back, because development cannot wait.”
