Liberia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Appointed ECOWAS Resident Representative to Togo

Monrovia – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the appointment of Cllr. Deweh E. Gray, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the new Resident Representative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the Republic of Togo.

According to the Ministry, Cllr. Gray’s appointment followed a rigorous selection process after Liberia, under the leadership of Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, submitted nominees to ECOWAS for consideration.

She was chosen from a shortlist of three candidates, with the agrément confirming her appointment received on June 28, 2025.

Foreign Minister Nyanti lauded the achievement as a milestone for both Cllr. Gray and the country.

“Deputy Minister Gray has demonstrated unwavering commitment, professionalism, and dedication to Liberia and to regional integration,” Minister Nyanti said. “Her appointment is not only a personal honor but also an affirmation of Liberia’s credibility and rising leadership within ECOWAS.”

As Resident Representative in Lomé, Togo, Cllr. Gray will oversee ECOWAS’s diplomatic mission, working closely with the Togolese government to strengthen regional cooperation.

Her responsibilities will include advancing peace and security initiatives, supporting economic development programs, and promoting the values of democracy and good governance across the West African sub-region.

The Ministry described the appointment as a recognition of both Cllr. Gray’s longstanding service to Liberia and her contributions to regional cooperation.

It further thanked ECOWAS for entrusting such a significant diplomatic role to a Liberian representative, noting that the appointment underscores the country’s growing presence in international and regional institutions.

“This prestigious role is another signal of Liberia’s reemergence as a trusted partner in global and regional affairs,” the statement read.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended congratulations to Cllr. Gray and assured her of the Liberian government’s full support as she undertakes her new assignment.

It also expressed gratitude to the President of the ECOWAS Commission for his role in the process and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the peace, unity, and integration of the West African community.
