The groundbreaking ceremony was held on January 8, 2026, in Beh Town, Dowein District, and brought together government officials, local authorities, community leaders, educators, and residents.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Education, Hon. Jarso Jallah, said the project forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to expand educational opportunities for students in underserved and rural communities across Liberia.

According to Minister Jallah, the expansion aligns with President Joseph N. Boakai’s vision of ensuring quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all Liberian children, regardless of their geographic location.

“This investment reflects a clear understanding that changing society starts with education,” Minister Jallah said. “Every Liberian child deserves a safe, supportive, and conducive learning environment where they can reach their full potential.”

The project, valued at US$295,000, is financed by the Government of Liberia through the 2025 National Budget. In addition to the construction works, the initiative includes the donation of 200 classroom chairs, aimed at improving classroom comfort, safety, and overall learning conditions.

Minister Jallah further noted that the expansion demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to equity, access, and results-based education, emphasizing that increasing the number of senior high schools in rural areas helps reduce dropout rates and eases the financial burden on families who previously had to send children far from home to continue their education.

Meanwhile, the Bomi County Administration has commended the Ministry of Education for what it described as a timely and impactful intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the county, County Development Officer Hon. Alfred B.S. Zinnah expressed appreciation to the national government and the Ministry, noting that the absence of senior high schools in parts of Bomi County has long limited educational advancement for many students.

“For years, it has been difficult for students on this side of Bomi to access senior high school education,” Hon. Zinnah said. “This project will ease that burden and create new opportunities for our young people.”

He used the occasion to call on the Ministry of Education to continue expanding educational infrastructure across the county, stressing that education remains central to both community development and national growth.

Hon. Zinnah also assured the Ministry of the county administration’s full cooperation, stating,

“We are ready to work with you to ensure the best possible outcomes for education in Bomi County.”

The expansion of Beh Town Senior High School is expected to significantly improve access to secondary education, reduce student migration to distant schools, and contribute meaningfully to human capital development and Liberia’s broader national development agenda.
