“This initiative is a testament to the robust cooperation between the EU and the Liberian government,” she said. “We are aligning our efforts with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda to support the artisanal fishing community.”

Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Ngafuan described the EU as “a steadfast partner in Liberia’s developmental journey,” expressing gratitude for the continued support. He added that the investment “will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in coastal regions.”

Desenate Cyrus Saygbe, Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), emphasized that the €25 million grant “transcends mere financial assistance,” reinforcing trust and collaboration between Liberia and its international partners.

“This agreement reflects the EU’s confidence in Liberia’s reform agenda and the leadership guiding NaFAA in its mission to transform the fisheries sector,” Saygbe said.

He further noted that the support will “significantly improve the livelihoods of artisanal fishermen and fishmongers across the country.”

The EU-Liberia partnership is expected to enhance production, promote sustainable fishing practices, and deliver long-term benefits for coastal communities, strengthening both economic resilience and community development.
