“This building is a bold investment in the future of Liberia’s justice system and democratic governance,” she declared.

A Pillar of Legal Education and National Leadership

Senator Karnga-Lawrence praised the leadership of the institution for its vision and commitment to academic excellence. She noted that the law school has produced generations of lawyers, judges, lawmakers, and public servants who continue to shape national policy and uphold constitutional order.

“The Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law has been a pillar in training the men and women who defend our Constitution and guide our national life,” she said. “What we are witnessing today is a continuation of that proud legacy.”

She emphasized that democracy cannot thrive without well-prepared legal professionals who understand both the technical and moral foundations of the law.

“A strong democracy depends on well-trained legal minds who understand not only the letter of the law, but also its spirit,” she added.

Push for Stable and Predictable Funding

The Senate Pro Tempore disclosed that she will engage her colleagues in the Liberian Senate to secure a specific line item in the national budget for the law school, stressing the importance of sustainable and predictable funding.

“Professional institutions like this one must be supported with sustainable resources if they are to meet the demands of national development,” she said. “I will work with my colleagues to ensure this school receives the attention it deserves in the national budget.”

She reaffirmed the Senate’s broader commitment to strengthening the education sector, particularly institutions that directly contribute to governance and public service.

“We remain committed to supporting education, especially professional institutions that help strengthen our democracy and justice system,” Karnga-Lawrence stated.

Strengthening Legislative–Academic Collaboration

The Pro Tempore also pledged continued collaboration between the Legislature and the University of Liberia to improve infrastructure and expand academic programming at the law school.

The newly completed multipurpose building is expected to enhance teaching, research, and public engagement by providing modern space for lectures, conferences, and legal training activities.

The development marks another milestone in efforts to strengthen legal education and reinforce the institutional foundations of Liberia’s democracy.
