Grand Kru Health Team Clears Air on ‘Expired Drugs’ Claims

LOCAL NEWS

Grand Kru – The Grand Kru County Health Officer has praised Senator Numene Bartekwa for donating a 40-foot container filled with assorted medical supplies to the County Health Team, describing the gesture as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the county.

Dr. Learwellie Craig said the donation is aimed at enhancing and improving the quality of healthcare services available to citizens across Grand Kru’s five health districts.

He noted that the Senator’s contribution to the county’s health system cannot be overemphasized, as the supplies will help address several existing constraints affecting health facilities.

Responding to recent controversies surrounding the donation, particularly claims that expired drugs were included and later burned in Barclayville, Dr. Craig clarified that no drugs were part of the shipment.

According to him, the container comprised medical supplies and equipment — not pharmaceutical products.

“It is true that some of the medical equipment had expired, but no drugs were included in the 40-foot container donated by the Senator,” Dr. Craig emphasized.

Speaking Thursday to the Liberia Excellent News Network via WhatsApp, Dr. Craig disclosed that the usable medical supplies are currently stored at the County Health Team compound and will be distributed to various health facilities across the county.

He further explained that the few expired items were destroyed in the presence of staff from the Senator’s office, members of the public, and the media to ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, the Chief Administrator of the County Health Team has warned against politicizing the operations and activities of the health team, stressing that healthcare delivery should not be mixed with politics.
