ACCRA, GHANA – The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Accra has launched urgent diplomatic and consular engagements with Ghanaian authorities following the tragic death of 26-year-old Liberian citizen, Mr. Austin Tengbeh, in the Lashibi–Sakumono area of Accra.
According to confirmed information received by the Embassy, the incident occurred on February 27, 2026.

The Mission was formally notified a day later and immediately initiated high-level contact with relevant security authorities in the Republic of Ghana, including the Crime Unit of the Sakumono District Police, to obtain verified facts and ensure that proper legal procedures are being strictly followed.
Preliminary details provided by the Ghana Police Service indicate that the matter remains under active investigation. Authorities have confirmed that arrests have already been made in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional individuals believed to have been involved.
Mr. Tengbeh, who resided in the Spintex area of Accra, had reportedly gone to visit a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation occurred.
The circumstances surrounding the confrontation are now central to the police investigation. Law enforcement officers responded to the scene and transported Mr. Tengbeh to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Liberian Embassy has intensified engagement with individuals connected to the incident, leaders and members of the Liberian community in Ghana, and appropriate Ghanaian authorities.
Efforts are also underway to formally reach and engage Mr. Tengbeh’s next of kin to provide necessary consular support and assistance during this difficult time.
The Embassy has assured that it will remain fully seized of the matter and will continue to work closely with Ghanaian law enforcement to ensure that justice is pursued in accordance with the laws of the Ghana.
Officials emphasized confidence in due process and the longstanding cordial relations between Ghana and the Liberia.
Extending profound condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the wider Liberian community, the Government of Liberia has expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
At the same time, authorities are urging Liberians residing in Ghana to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.
The Embassy reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to following the case through to its lawful conclusion and pledged to provide further updates as appropriate.
