Local Authorities Raise Alarm Over Weak Agricultural Support in Sinoe County

LOCAL NEWS

SINOE COUNTY – Local authorities in Sinoe County have sounded a strong alarm over what they describe as crippling shortages of farming tools, financial assistance, and technical expertise hindering the growth of the county’s agriculture sector.

Sinoe County, located in the southeastern region of Liberia, is widely known for its fertile land and vast agricultural potential. However, local leaders say that without urgent government intervention, the county’s farming sector will remain underdeveloped despite the willingness of its farmers to expand production.

The concerns were raised during a meeting with officials of the Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA), where county authorities called for immediate support to boost productivity and strengthen local agricultural output.

Speaking during the engagement, the local leaders emphasized that farmers in the county are determined to grow and contribute meaningfully to the national economy but lack the necessary resources to do so.

“Our farmers are intentional and ready to work,” the leaders stated. “But without the proper tools, financial support, and technical knowhow, they cannot produce on a larger scale. The government must provide the support system that will allow them to thrive and produce in abundance.”

According to the authorities, many farmers continue to rely on outdated farming methods and rudimentary equipment, limiting both productivity and profitability. They stressed that access to modern farming tools, improved seedlings, extension services, and agricultural credit facilities would significantly transform the sector.

The leaders further noted that agriculture remains one of the most viable pathways for economic empowerment in the county, especially for rural communities that depend heavily on farming for their livelihoods.

“There is a clear need for the government to provide tools and all forms of support for our local farmers,” they added. “If we are serious about food security and economic growth, then we must invest directly in the people who are feeding the nation.”

The meeting with LACRA is expected to form part of broader consultations aimed at strengthening agricultural regulation and improving commodity production across the country.

Observers believe that sustained investment in counties like Sinoe could play a critical role in Liberia’s drive toward food self-sufficiency and rural development.
