BONG COUNTY – A violent windstorm has caused significant destruction in Gomue Village, Zota District, Bong County, leaving several families homeless and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
The storm, which struck the community late Sunday night, ripped roofs off homes, scattered household belongings, and displaced multiple families who are now forced to sleep outdoors with their children exposed to harsh weather conditions.

In a statement, the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia, Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo, described the situation as a painful reminder of the growing impact of climate change on vulnerable rural communities across Liberia.
According to Dr. Yarkpawolo, communities like Gomue Village have limited capacity to recover from such natural disasters, making the situation even more difficult for affected residents.
“This painful incident is yet another reminder that the impacts of climate change are no longer distant predictions; they are unfolding before our eyes in vulnerable rural communities,” he noted.
Dr. Yarkpawolo emphasized that the affected residents urgently require assistance, including roofing materials, food, clothing, and other basic household supplies to help families rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods.
He called on humanitarian organizations, partners, and compassionate citizens to support the people of Gomue Village during this challenging period.
“As families struggle to cope with the aftermath of the storm, our shared humanity must rise stronger than the storm,” he added.
Local authorities and residents are currently assessing the full extent of the damage while appeals continue for immediate relief support for the affected families.
