MPC Accuses Boakai-Koung Administration of Corruption, Mismanagement

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – The Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has launched a strong criticism of the Boakai-Koung administration, accusing it of systemic corruption, human rights abuses, and economic mismanagement, while calling for immediate accountability from senior government officials.

The remarks were made during a press conference marking the official launch of the party’s “National Consciousness” campaign.

Speaking at the event, MPC Public Relations Officer Marcus Marshall presented a six-point declaration, alleging that the government has betrayed public trust. He called for resignations, investigations, and the reversal of what he described as controversial policies.

The opposition group also vowed to “name and shame” presidential appointees who engage in partisan political activities while serving in government, which it said violates Article 5.1 of Liberia’s Code of Conduct.

“We will not tolerate a Unity Party government that recycles the very lawlessness it once campaigned against,” Marshall said.

The MPC specifically accused officials at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Telecommunications Authority, the Ministry of Labour, and the Liberia Petroleum Refining Corporation of engaging in partisan campaigning while on the government payroll.

The party further raised concerns over what it described as an opaque “Yellow Machine” procurement process linked to the Ministry of Transport and the Liberia Traffic Management. It alleged that the deal bypassed proper oversight and failed to deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

“These are not just machines,” the MPC stated. “They are symbols of a procurement process shrouded in secrecy.”

Economic issues also featured prominently in the party’s statement. The MPC criticized recent demolition exercises across the country, claiming that they displaced thousands of residents without adequate resettlement or compensation.

It also blamed the administration for rising inflation and worsening living conditions, which it said are forcing many families to struggle to meet basic needs.

On social issues, the party expressed concern over what it described as an unresolved rape crisis and a growing narcotics problem. It accused the government of failing to take decisive action.

“Justice remains a luxury for the few,” the MPC said, adding that young people continue to suffer due to the lack of a clear strategy to combat drug abuse.

The party also raised concerns about national security, warning of what it described as an ongoing border crisis and urging the government to pursue diplomatic solutions while providing accurate information to the public.

Framing its declaration as a call to action, the MPC said its campaign would go beyond criticism to direct engagement.

“The time for blind eyes is over. The time for Progressive Change is now,” the statement concluded.

The MPC is demanding the immediate resignation of presidential appointees holding party positions and has called for independent investigations into alleged procurement irregularities, demolition practices, and law enforcement failures.

It also announced plans for a nationwide media tour aimed at amplifying its message and positioning the party as an alternative to the current administration.

Government officials had not responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.

Observers say the MPC’s stance signals a more confrontational phase in Liberia’s opposition politics and could intensify political debate ahead of upcoming elections.
