GRAND KRU – Grand Kru County Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa has criticized former President George Manneh Weah for failing to fulfill a pledge to provide three canoes to residents of Jloh Statutory District.
The commitment was made during Weah’s presidency, but it was not delivered before he left office. Senator Bartekwa said he felt compelled to step in and address the unmet promise through his own initiative.

He subsequently donated three motorized canoes to the community, aimed at supporting local livelihoods and boosting economic activities, particularly fishing.
“When George Manneh Weah returns to government, maybe he will do as he promised. But these are not the canoes George Weah promised the people of Jloh. I want to make that clear. These canoes are my own initiative,” Senator Bartekwa said during the presentation in Betu City.
The senator noted that the donation is intended to improve transportation on waterways, increase fishing capacity, and enhance safety for residents who rely heavily on fishing as a source of income.
However, Bartekwa’s gesture comes amid political discussions in the county regarding his shifting alliances.
He previously served as campaign manager for the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) during the 2023 elections and was instrumental in coordinating campaign logistics and resources.
Reports also suggest that Senator Bartekwa, who benefited from CDC support during his 2020 senatorial election, is now maintaining a closer working relationship with the current administration, a development that has drawn political attention.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus thanked citizens for their continued cooperation with the national government, county authorities, and lawmakers in promoting peace and development across the county.
