The conference, which opened Monday at a local hotel in Monrovia, brings together Auditors General from 26 African countries for discussions aimed at strengthening public sector auditing, promoting transparency, and improving accountability across the continent.

AFROSAI-E is the African Organization of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions and comprises 24 English-speaking countries and two Portuguese-speaking nations.

The meeting, running from May 18 to May 22, 2026, is being held under the auspices of AFROSAI-E and hosted by SAI Liberia through the General Auditing Commission.

Organizers say the gathering will focus on reviewing progress made under AFROSAI-E’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan while exploring new approaches to ensure audits have greater impact on the lives of citizens across member states.

According to officials, the annual conference is intended to fulfill statutory obligations, strengthen institutional capacity among Supreme Audit Institutions, and enhance peer-to-peer collaboration among member countries.

Liberia’s Auditor General, P. Garswa Jackson, said the meeting will place strong emphasis on advancing the use of data and technology in public sector auditing throughout Africa.

He noted that Liberia’s hosting of the high-level gathering reflects the country’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and international best practices in public financial management.

Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former IMF Deputy Managing Director and ex-Finance Minister Antoinette Sayeh are expected to deliver keynote papers during the Strategic Review Meeting.
