MONROVIA – The National Transit Authority (NTA) has officially dedicated 20 brand-new mini buses and five cargo trucks to expand national public transportation, strengthen commuter access, and streamline the movement of agricultural goods across Liberia.

Supplied through a procurement partnership with ABK Incorporated, the additional fleet marks a major milestone in upgrading the country’s transport infrastructure and boosting public transit capacity.
Speaking at the dedication ceremony, NTA Managing Director Edmund Forh outlined the strategic deployment plan for the new fleet: ”The 20 mini buses will be immediately deployed for special services, including dedicated airport shuttle operations and student transportation under targeted special arrangements. Meanwhile, the five cargo trucks will directly support farm-to-market transportation, enabling local farmers to seamlessly move agricultural produce from rural communities to commercial markets nationwide.”
Alongside the fleet expansion, Managing Director Forh announced a major step toward modernizing the Authority’s financial management: ”We are implementing an electronic payment system designed to strengthen revenue collection and curb cash leakages.
The project has been contracted to Labora, a Liberian-owned company, for $248,000 USD. To support this digital transformation and ensure seamless revenue-management operations, construction of a dedicated NTA data center is already underway.”
Representing President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah commended the achievement and issued a charge to the management team:
”I congratulate the management and hard-working employees of the NTA for this significant achievement. However, progress must be protected, I strongly urge everyone to exercise stewardship and protect the gains being made today.”
To protect the investment, NTA leadership reiterated its commitment to strict maintenance schedules and responsible fleet usage to guarantee that the new mini buses and cargo trucks remain operational for years to come.
Together, the 20 mini buses and 5 cargo trucks represent a vital double-boost for Liberia’s public transit network, delivering reliable solutions for daily commuters, students, airport travelers, and the national agricultural sector.
