MONROVIA – Chief Justice of Liberia Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay Sr. has temporarily suspended Cllr. Peter King from practicing law in the country pending an investigation into a complaint alleging professional misconduct.

According to a press release issued September 10, the complaint was filed by Mrs. Beatrice Swen in connection with a conveyance transaction.

The Chief Justice’s Office said it made several attempts to contact Cllr. King regarding the complaint, but he allegedly ignored the calls. The office subsequently wrote him on September 8, 2026.

Given the nature and seriousness of the allegation, Chief Justice Gbeisay forwarded the complaint to the Grievance and Ethics Committee for investigation and appropriate recommendations in accordance with the rules governing the professional conduct and discipline of lawyers in Liberia.

Pending the investigation and determination of the matter, Chief Justice Gbeisay ordered the immediate temporary suspension of Cllr. King’s license to practice law, citing the need to preserve the integrity of the disciplinary process and the administration of justice.

Under the suspension, Cllr. King is barred from appearing as counsel before any court or tribunal in Liberia and from otherwise engaging in the practice of law until further notice or an appropriate determination of the matter.

The Chief Justice has also ordered Cllr. King to fully cooperate with the Grievance and Ethics Committee, including complying with any citations, notices or requests issued by the committee.

The press release states that Cllr. King will be afforded a full opportunity to respond to the allegations as the committee conducts its investigation.
