Speaker Koon is attending the ceremony at the invitation of the President of the National Assembly of Guinea. The ceremonial opening is scheduled for Monday, October 5, with related activities expected to continue through October 7, 2026.
The invitation underscores the longstanding ties between Liberia and Guinea and the importance of strengthening bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy and institutional engagement.
During his stay in Conakry, Speaker Koon is expected to meet with Guinean parliamentary authorities and other dignitaries to discuss parliamentary practices, legislative oversight, democratic governance, and the role of parliaments in promoting peace and stability in West Africa.
The visit will also provide an opportunity for the Liberian and Guinean legislatures to exchange experiences and further strengthen parliamentary cooperation.
Following his engagements in Guinea, Speaker Koon is expected to travel to Ghana, where he will meet with the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana.
The discussions are expected to include Liberia’s preparations to host the Fourth General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Heads of African Parliaments, or CoSPAL, scheduled for December 9–11, 2026.
As host of the upcoming CoSPAL General Assembly, Liberia has been engaging African parliaments and other stakeholders to prepare for the gathering, which is expected to bring together Speakers and Heads of African Parliaments to deliberate on issues of continental importance and strengthen parliamentary cooperation.
Speaker Koon’s engagements in Guinea and Ghana form part of his broader efforts to advance parliamentary diplomacy, strengthen regional cooperation, and position Liberia’s legislature as an active partner in promoting democratic governance, peace, stability and development across Africa.
The Speaker is expected to return to Liberia following the conclusion of his official engagements.
